In-Depth Instructions For Renewing a License

Here we describe the exact steps you’ll need as you purchase, study for, and pass our courses and programs for Renewing a License.

The Online Renewal Program

Please purchase the Online Renewal Program. This program includes seven online courses; 6 mandated courses (Agency Relationships, Ethics, Trust Fund Handling, Fair Housing, Risk Management, Management and Supervision) and Real Estate Review / Consumer Protection (which is split into 2 halves).

Six Mandated Courses (18 credit hours total)

  1. A CalBRE-mandated 2 day minimum study period is required from the date of purchase before you’re allowed to take the online exams for the 6 mandated courses.
    1. During the 2 day minimum study period, you must log into the My Account section to review the electronic books (one for each mandated course) and take the 6 assessment quizzes (one for each mandated course), which contain questions in true/false format.
    2. While required, assessment quizzes are not graded (though correct answers are displayed), and can only be taken once.
  2. After the 2 day minimum study period is satisfied, log back into the My Account section to take the exams for each mandated course.
    1. Each exam contains 15 multiple choice questions that must be completed within 15 minutes.
    2. You have two attempts to pass with a 70% (or higher) score.
    3. There is no minimum study period between exam attempts (after the initial 2 day minimum study period).
    4. Note that while we can provide your exact score, you’re not allowed to see which answers you get wrong.

Real Estate Review / Consumer Protection (30 credit hours total)

  1. Once you pass all 6 mandated courses, there is a 2 day minimum study period before you’re allowed to take the online exam for the 1st half of the Consumer Protection course.
    1. During the 2 day minimum study period, you must log into the My Account section to review the electronic book (one book for the full Consumer Protection course) and take the assessment quizzes (for the 1st half of Consumer Protection), which contain questions in true/false format.
    2. While required, assessment quizzes are not graded (though correct answers are displayed), and can only be taken once.
  2. After the 2 day minimum study period is satised, log back into the My Account section to take the exam for the 1st half of the Consumer Protection course.
    1. The exam contains 35 multiple choice questions that must be completed within 35 minutes.
    2. You have two attempts to pass with a 70% (or higher) score.
    3. There is no minimum study period between exam attempts (after the initial 2 day minimum study period).
    4. Note that while we can provide your exact score, you’re not allowed to see which answers you get wrong.
  3. Once you pass the 1st half of the Consumer Protection course, please follow steps 3 and 4 for the 2nd half of the Consumer Protection course.

Follow Through

The following applies to all orders for courses and programs within the Renewing a License section;

  • CalBRE requires you to re-purchase any course(s) where you fail the exam twice.
  • You must pass the exams for all courses of a single order within 1 year of your purchase date. Failure to do so will require you to re-purchase the specific courses you did not complete.
  • Please transcribe all data from your certicate(s) (up to a possible 45 credit hours) onto CalBRE Form 251 and submit the form and renewal fee payment to the CalBRE.

The Panic Renewal Program

Please purchase the Panic Renewal Program at least 2 days in advance of the live seminar date you wish to attend. Registration may be done online or over the phone (650.941.4321).

Live Seminar – Six Mandated Courses (15 credit hours total)

  1. The minimum 2 days between purchasing the program and attending the live seminar is considered the CalBRE-mandated 2 day minimum study period. During the study period, you must log into the My Account section to review the electronic books (one for each mandated course).
  2. Attend the live seminar at the date, time, and location you specied during checkout.
    1. Please bring a government-issued photo ID.
    2. Charlie will review the materials for all courses of the program (including both the 6 mandated courses and both halves of the Consumer Protection course).
    3. You’ll take the 6 assessment quizzes (one for each mandated course), which contain questions in true/false format.
    4. You’ll also take the course exams at the live seminar. Each exam contains 35 multiple choice questions that must be completed within 35 minutes.
    5. If you complete quizzes and pass the exams, you will be issued a certicate (for 15 credit hours) at the end of the live seminar.

Online Course – Real Estate Review / Consumer Protection (30 credit hours total)

  1. After the live seminar, there is a 2 day minimum study period before you’re allowed to take the online exam for the 1st half of the Consumer Protection course.
    1. During the 2 day minimum study period, you must log into the My Account section to review the electronic book (one book for the full Consumer Protection course) and take the assessment quizzes (for the 1st half of Consumer Protection), which contain questions in true/false format.
    2. While required, assessment quizzes are not graded (though correct answers are displayed), and can only be taken once.

Custom Ordering

Please purchase the specific courses, materials, and live seminars you desire on our Custom Ordering page.

  1. If you buy any/all courses, please read the instructions below (steps 1 through 5).
  2. If you buy Charlie Krackeler’s Real Estate Review for License Renewal (printed book for all six continuing education courses), it will be mailed to you (via U.S. Postal Mail).
  3. If you register for any of the live seminars, please show up (with a government-issued photo ID) at the date, time, and location you chose in checkout.

    1. During the 2 day minimum study period, you must log into the My Account section to review the electronic book (one book for the full Consumer Protection course) and take the assessment quizzes (for the 1st half of Consumer Protection), which contain questions in true/false format.

“Charlie Krackeler’s Real Estate Review”

This continuing education course examines the daily practice of real estate brokerage.  Understanding financing, agent liabilities, negotiating tactics, professional standards, government regulations, escrow procedures, ethical prospecting methods, people skills, buyers and sellers is all part of practicing as a reasonably competent, diligent real estate agent.  Since real estate practitioners are held to a standard that is higher than just reasonable, this course is essential for anyone who wants to protect both themselves and their client in a real estate transaction. 

Course credit hours:  This course is approved for 30 hours of continuing education in the category of “Consumer Protection.”

Identification:  The participant shall present one of the following forms of identification immediately before admittance to a correspondence course, this shall occur immediately proceeding the administration of a final  examination for a correspondence and internet course offering

(a)A current California driver license

(b)A current identification card described in Section 13000 of the California Vehicle Code.

(c)Any identification of the participant issued by a government agency or recognized real estate related issued trade organization with the immediately preceding five years which bears a photograph, signature and identification number of the participant.

Method of Course Presentation:  The method of course presentation for this course is a correspondence course where the written material is delivered to the participant and the course sponsor acts as the exam monitor at a designated location.  This course is also administered via the internet.

Course fee:  The fee for this course is $70.

Course Completion Time:  Per Commissioner’s Regulation:  3006(m); All offerings shall require completion within one year from the date of registration. 

Participants taking correspondence courses are limited to taking a maximum of 15 hours of credit testing in any one 24 hour period.

Refund Policy:  All sales are final.  Once the course is purchased by the participant, there are no refunds.

Attendance Record Policy:  The course sponsor, Charlie Krackeler Presents…, Inc., shall maintain a record of attendance of each participant, for a period of five years, sufficient to allow for the preparation of a duplicate certificate upon request by a participant, for a $25 administrative fee.  

For live courses, students must attend a minimum of 90% of the approved course hours to be eligible to receive CalBRE continuing education course credit.

Exam Requirements:  The final examination for this course is open book.  It is  consistent for all participants.  While taking the final exam open book, the participant can only refer to the instructional material approved for the course.

The exam consists of 70 multiple choice questions.

Allotted time for the exam:  The time allotted for the exam is one minute per question.  Time involved in the final exam is included in the stated 30 clock hours of the offering of this correspondence course.

Grading criteria:  The final exam shall be corrected and the participant must get a score of a minimum of 70% in order to receive credit for the course.

Regulation 3007.3(k) and 3007.3(l):  This offering includes a provision for one retaking of the final examination by a participant who fails the original examination.  The questions on the alternate exam are all different than the original exam that the participant did not pass.  If the participant fails the re-exam, then s/he receives no credit for the course.  The participant may re-enroll and attempt completion of the same course, but must complete the credit hours and successfully complete the final exam in order to receive credit.

Online Evaluation Available:  A course and instructor evaluation is available on the California Bureau of Real Estate (CalBRE) website at www.calbre.ca.gov.  Access this form by typing in “RE 318A” in the search box located in the upper right corner of the home page.
